Clinical Chaperone
Clinical Chaperones
A chaperone will be present during sensitive procedures and exams.
What is a chaperone?
A “clinical chaperone” is a second member of the medical team who will be present and available to assist patients and medical staff in completing exams and procedures, and will sit or stand in a location that allows observation of the medical staff member’s clinical work.
What is a sensitive exam or procedure?
A senstitive exam or procedure includes the physical examination/procedure involving the genitalia, rectum or breast/chest.
Can I request a chaperone?
If an exam is not considered “sensitive” by policy definition, patients are able to request a clinical chaperone for other reason (e.g., personal experience, cultural, or religious values) by speaking with medical staff.
