HIV/STI Testing

Schiffert Health Center offers sexually transmitted infection testing on common STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, genital HPV, genital herpes simplex, hepatitis B, and hepatitis. Some of these tests require a fee, while others do not. HIV testing done in the Medical Clinic is by blood test only and there is a fee for this. Students should call 540-231-6444 to schedule an appointment.

Attention: All walk-in testing clinics provided by New River Health District and the Drop-In Center have been temporarily postponed. We will continue to work with both of these organizations in hopes that we can provide these free services again soon. Please check back for any updates as the fall semester continues. Students can still receive STI testing in our clinic by appointment. To find other testing sites in your area visit https://gettested.cdc.gov/

Students have the following opportunities to receive free testing:

  • HIV and hepatitis C testing done at Schiffert Health Center with The Drop-In Center is a free, confidential test to students on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. from September to April. Finger stick tests will be used. Please call 540-982-2437 or email dropnctr@councilofcommunityservices.org to schedule an appointment. This service is not available during the summer break, from May through August.
  • The New River Health District also offers free and confidential testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and syphilis on the first and third Tuesdays every month from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Schiffert Health Center. A blood and urine sample will be collected for laboratory testing. Appointments are not required. For more information, contact the New River Health District at 540-585-3355.
