Incoming Students
Getting accepted to Virginia Tech, signing your acceptance letter, and planning your move to any of Virginia Tech’s campuses can be a hectic time. It is required that part of that planning must also involve Virginia Tech's student entrance immunization requirements from Schiffert Health Center. This requirement is applicable to all students on all campuses.
These requirements include filling out and turning in your Immunization History Form (PDF), which includes the Tuberculosis Screening Form, and completing all required immunizations.
- Forms for fall semester are due by June 30.
- Forms for spring semester are due by December 31.
- If your form is not received by the due date, you will be subject to a late fee of $100.
To get the forms to us, please scan and upload them through the Healthy Hokies Portal.
You may also mail or fax the forms.

What happens if I do not submit my immunization records?
- Students who do not submit their immunizations by the required deadline (Fall-June 30, Spring- December 31) are subject to a $100 late fee. Failure to submit required immunization will also result in a registration hold on your account, which means you will be unable to register for and add/drop classes.
I am an international student and cannot receive some of the required immunization in my country. What do I do?
- Please submit all available immunization records to your Healthy Hokies Portal. If you are unable to receive certain immunizations in your country, you may receive your noncompliant vaccines once you have arrived in the US. There is an international immunization clinic on August 14th, 2024 from 9-5 in the Squires Student Center, or you can call 540-231-7621 to schedule an appointment to have it completed here at the health center. You will not be charged for the late fee if you complete the immunizations required upon the start of classes. This exemption is ONLY for international students unable to receive vaccines in their country, not for domestic students who are out of the country for travel.
My primary care physician does not have any appointments available before the deadline. Can I receive an extension?
- If you are unable to make an appointment with your primary care provider to receive required immunizations, there are other options for care. Vaccines may be available at private doctor offices, pharmacies, workplaces, community health clinics, health departments or other community locations, such as schools and religious centers. You are able to request your existing medical records from your primary care provider without an appointment. As a general rule, extensions will not be granted.
I am a Graduate student who was previously enrolled at Virginia Tech. Do I still need submit my immunizations?
- Yes, new graduate students are still required to submit updated immunizations. If you were previously a student at Virginia Tech and submitted records, they will be in your Healthy Hokie Portal. However, you may have incomplete forms and immunizations that need to be completed or updated with a booster, and you will need to log into the Healthy Hokies Portal to complete and review these.
Do I have to use the form you provided?
- In order to avoid confusion regarding acceptable vs. non-acceptable criteria for immunization status, we recommend that you print the Immunization History Form and give it to your health care provider(s) to fill out and sign. However, as long as the document from your provider has all your required immunizations and is signed, you may submit that in place of the form we provide on our website.
Are all campuses required to submit immunizations?
- All campuses are required to submit immunizations with the exception of students who are fully remote/virtual. The Schiffert Health Center cannot help you change your remote status, you will need to contact the Registrar’s Office if you believe that you are eligible to be classified as fully remote student.
