Nutrition Services
College life brings many new experiences. At Virginia Tech, we want to assist students in these transitions. In an effort to provide our students with health resources that encompass the whole person, we offer a variety of nutrition services and programs.
Hokie Wellness Nutrition 101 Workshop
This interactive workshop explains common food myths, helps you examine what you are currently eating, and gives realistic tips and resources on how to create a better plate. This workshop will explore: food groups, portion sizes, healthy eating on campus, balance, and uses on-campus food examples to develop a healthy plate. This workshop is the recommended place to start for students who would like to eat healthier at college. Go to the workshop registration page for more info. (Available to students only).
Hokie Wellness Body Matters Project
This is a year-round project that works to promote positive body and overall physical and emotional wellness throughout campus in order to combat eating disorders and disordered eating. Staff with expertise in the areas of eating disorders, body image, and exercise issues are available to speak with campus organizations and classes. More info on Body Matters Project.
HEART - Health Eating Assessment and Referral Team
This multi-disciplinary team addresses eating disorders. Their team includes a dietitian, counselors, and medical and rec sports personnel. Students may refer themselves to the team by contacting any of the team members in medical, counseling, or with the dietitian. Read more about HEART.
Registered Dietitian
Individual appointments with a Registered Dietitian for personalized nutrition counseling are available through the Schiffert Health Center Medical Clinic. Individual nutrition sessions are recommended for students who have received a referral from a medical or counseling provider; or students who have significant food or body image concerns; or students who have attended the Hokie Wellness Nutrition 101 Workshop and need to meet with a Schiffert Health Center registered dietitian.
Dining Center Daily Menus
The dining centers on campus post daily menus to help students plan their meals.
HNFE Nutrition Counselors
Individual nutrition sessions are available with upper-level nutrition students in the human nutrition, food, and exercise field of study. Sessions cover basic nutrition and wellness tips and support.
Y.E.S: You're Eating (and Living) Smarter
This is an interactive online resource for nutrition facts, including food allergy information for on campus dining services.
