Quitting Tobacco
Have you tried to quit smoking or dipping and just can’t seem to stay tobacco-free? Have you been thinking about quitting and don’t know where to start? Would you like to get more information about products that can help you kick the cigarette or dip habit? Hokie Wellness and Schiffert Health Center can help!
Once you have developed a tobacco habit, it is difficult to quit on your own and, statistically, the success rates aren’t high. Success rates increase considerably when a person meets with a tobacco-cessation counselor (in addition to using cessation medicines).
If you are a Virginia Tech student and have paid your health fee, you can meet with one of our Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists to help get you on the right plan. These meetings are no-pressure and free. Your first appointment will last about 45 minutes, during which, we will work with you to come up with a realistic plan to help you quit tobacco for life. Future appointments are determined based on your plan.
In addition, we offer tobacco quitting medicines at reduced prices through the Schiffert Health Center Pharmacy. Also, if you come in for quitting appointment, we may be able to get your first two weeks of nicotine replacement products (patches, gum, lozenges) for free (if you need them).
Tobacco treatment appointments are part of the Schiffert Health Center services and are governed by the same policies, procedures, and confidentially as all medical appointments at Schiffert.
