Virginia Tech understands that students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to visit different parts of the world. Planning ahead to learn about recommended or required vaccinations helps take the stress out of international travel. The safest way to explore is to determine what factors await you in your destination and make decisions before you leave.

Pre-Travel

It takes time for vaccines/medications to take effect. If you delay your appointment, you may not be properly protected when you arrive in your destination country.

Schiffert Health Center offers a number of travel-specific vaccinations by appointment for those students who are leaving the country. Before making an appointment, become familiar with the Centers for Disease Control’s travel information and be sure to read the Travel Information Sheet (PDF | 68KB) while planning your trip.

Schiffert Health Center offers these travel vaccinations:

• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Malaria
• MMR (Measles, mumps, and rubella)
• Polio
• Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis)
• Typhoid

Post-Travel

Three months after your return from any international travel, please complete the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form (PDF | 222KB) . If you place a check next to any section, please call 540-231-7621 to schedule an appointment for a TB test.
